Group Update May 2010

Dr Rachel Saunders is now a EPSRC Life Sciences Interface Research Fellow. She obtained the award in August 2009. Congratulations Rachel!

Rui Dou graduated in December 2009. Well done Dr Dou! He is now working as a postdoc in the Derby Group on a project which involves inkjet printing of ceramics.

Dr Jonathan Stringer has now left the Derby Group after completing a PhD and 3 years postdoctoral work under Prof. Derby’s supervision. We wish him well for the future.

Dr Rick Knight is now working in the Derby Group on a project looking to optimise inkjet printing for research in the life sciences. Rick’s short biography is below:

Rick graduated from the University of Leeds with a BSc (Hons) in Genetics & Medical Microbiology in 2000.  He went on to complete a PhD at Leeds entitled ‘Development of Methods for Tissue Engineering of Cardiac Valves Using Mesenchymal Stem Cells’ in 2004 and continued with this research in a Post-doctoral position there.  He joined the University of Manchester in 2007 on a post-doctoral project with a consortium of companies to create a textile for maxillofacial bone repair incorporating bioactive glass.  He now works as a Postdoc with Professor Brian Derby investigating the optimisation of inkjet printing for research in the life sciences.
